Hi All,
I was just wondering if anyone here is going through/has gone through or even knows someone who has gone through egg freezing? I have gone through one cycle and want to do another soon. But I don't know anyone else that has.
It can be a bit isolating and lonely not having someone to talk to about it! Also, I don't have anyone to help with the injections at the moment - and I have a needle phobia :''( Any help/ideas/suggestions are super welcome!
xoxo

Re: Egg freezing
Hi Jill,
I'm aiming to do my first round in November. I'm starting to get a little nervous. Think I'm in the same boat as you with the injections - not quite on a phobia level though Tried to bribe my sister to do mine but she said no ha ha. Any tips from your first round?
Also, did you take any supplements or vitamins before/during stims? There is so much information so it's all a tad overwhelming. So far I'm leaning towards ubiquinol CoQ10 and Blackmores Conceive Well Gold from about 3 months prior.
Have you done another round since your last post?

Re: Egg freezing
Hi Laury86!
Oh wow, I didn't think anyone would reply in the end, so its so nice to hear from you!
Yes I did end up doing 2 rounds. You have several months. Yes I took plenty of supplements in the months leading up - Coenzyme 10, folic acid, a generic pregnancy multivitamin on top of that, zinc, B vitamins, and ate carefully - lots and lots of veggies. No coffee, no alcohol etc. for months. There's still lots of nice things to eat anyway I did sometimes eat chocolate etc. as I am human! but generally ate healthily. I read that book 'it starts with the egg' and followed the tips in that as much as I could. I also went off the contraceptive pill in the months leading up to it. I even avoided eating things that come out of plastics, which is hard sometimes.
Apparently DHEA can be good, but in my case (mild PCOS) they recommend against it in my situation. But it can work really well for many women, but the details are in 'it starts with the egg'.
Anyway, I got a higher number of eggs the second time. I got lots the first time, so I am glad
Amazingly I think my needle phobia is starting to go away. Can't quite believe it! I still can't do shots myself, but I am much less afraid. My boyfriend helped me, which helped a lot.
The main thing I would say also, is that it is over quickly. The 2 weeks goes by in a whirl. I found that the first part was not so bad, and then the last part was where I felt a bit nauseous. But some ladies don't get that. Honestly, I would say in general, its not that bad. Before you know it, it will be over!
I do think its good to clear out the calendar, and have some emotional support, as at times the hormones can cause emotional fluctuation. I also found that my tummy puffed out, so it can be good to have loose fitting clothes for work. It also goes away as fast as it puffs out after the op, so no worries there
I would also say, that I personally think its a good idea to a) treat it as a backup and not rely on it and B) aim to get a good number of eggs, so maybe think of another cycle depending how you go. But anyway, you've got this one to think of. Its awesome to be proactive and good on you.
I would say the following too - personally I have aimed to have a general strategy for considering parenthood that considers a variety of options - I read a book called 'in her own sweet time' which was about a lady who froze some eggs but also ended up choosing to be a single mum by choice once she got to a certain age - and kept the eggs for later if she met her dream guy. Everyone's priorities are different. Anyway, good on you!
I wish you the best of luck, and hope you get lots of eggs. Let me know if you have any other questions! xoxo

Re: Egg freezing
P.S. on injections - I tried and tried to find a service that could do the injections for me but couldn't... I rang so many places! In the end my boyfriend helped me. So I haven't had to do my own injections. But I have heard that there is a kind of cream that can numb the injection site (you'll need a prescription for it) or you can use ice to numb the skin before you inject so it hurts less. The main needles you use are very tiny though, so it doesn't hurt too much. But if you can find someone to help you do it, then its way better. I know its hard though!

Re: Egg freezing
Hi!
I'm about to have my eggs frozen and I feel similar to what you have both written (except I haven't started the injections yet, so that will be new!)
If you have any tips I'd really love to hear them, it is such an overwhelming process. I'm nearly 37 and am definitely deep in the regret stage - "Why didn't I do this a few years ago when I first thought about it? How have I got into this situation?" It is tough! But I figure better to have tried and felt I did all I can.
Finally, in terms of clinics, my options are Fertility Plus or Fertility associates - any recommendations?
I'd love hear of any egg freezing success stories in NZ. I haven't come across any!
Best wishes to anyone reading this

Re: Egg freezing
Hi Floss, I wish you the best with this! I did watch a news article with a NZ success story:http://www.tvnz.co.nz/one-news/new-zealand/meet-17-month-old-wren-w... I used Fertility Associates. I think my biggest tips are A) getting the recommended number of eggs and B) taking supplements beforehand - I followed 'It starts with the egg' Best of Luck!!!! xx
