Hi
Just received recommendation that I should have a myomectomy to remove a 55mm fibroid (not distorting my endometrium and never has caused any problem in the past) if I want to undergo IVF/egg donor (due to my age).
A very controversial topic with no real proof of this affecting any fertility; also have received 3 different responses from 3 different overseas fertility centres - 2 would be happy proceeding with eg IVF, the other one advising to follow the recommendation of removal via myomectomy.
Of course this would be expensive and quite a surgery.
Anyone having gone through this? I would be grateful with all information I could receive.
Thanks a lot in advance

Re: Myomectomy - IVF?
It is really a matter of debate as answer varies from doctor to doctor. Fibroid’s impact on success rates for patients undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) and current recommendations regarding myomectomy prior to IVF remains controversial. I think a lot of it depends on types of fibroids and its location. Submucous fibroids or intramural fibroids with a submucous component reduce IVF success rates and should be removed. From my view, it is clear that studies doesn’t conclude any solid results and so the decision is really whether you want to do everything you can to maximize your chances with IVF or do you want to try the IVF without the surgery and take the risk. It is a toss up.
