Hi,
Me and my partner have been trying to conceive for over a year now. I stopped my pill at the end of April 2012 and I haven't had my regular period since. My GP finally referred me to see the Fertility Clinic where I was seen initially in April 2013. I was started on Provera to get my period started, which did not work. I was then put on the pill for 2 weeks and got my period after that. Then I started my first course of 50mg of Clomid from day 3 to day 7. Day 21 blood tests came back as not ovulating. Started another course of the pill for 2 weeks, started my second course of Clomid of 100mg, day 21 still no ovulation.

I am not handling it very well as me and my partner thought that we would be able to get pregnant as there is nothing wrong with us physically young, fit, and healthy. I now have another appointment with the Fertility Clinic this coming Friday. We have so many people, friends and family, who are getting pregnant around us lately which is making it that much more stressful and torturous for us.

Is there someone else with a similar story that has had success in the end? I am getting impatient and it is causing so much stress, though me and my partner are so strong it is still hard.

Re: Clomid

Update on my progress:

I had my second gynae appointment on Friday afternoon. The result is to start on the contraceptive pill again for 2 weeks to kick start a bleed and then I will start a course of 150mg of Clomid. This is my last chance for it to work. If I don't ovulate this time I will have to look into more invasive medications, such as injections. Anyone who knows me I have a major fear of injections, there have been multiple times where I have fainted, but going through what I have so far I know that this is what I want and am prepared to do this, even though I am petrified.

Once again if anyone is going through this same journey or has before, I would love to hear your process as it is nice knowing that I'm not the only person feeling this way and going through it.

On clomid too

Hi Wgirl, I'm new to the forum and just read your posts and wondered how you are doing? Any progress on this round of clomid?
I started my first round but a second blood test on day 14 showed that what ever hormone was supposed to be increasing, actually went down. So I'm on tablets to start a period and then trying again on a higher dose. I was at work when the nurse called, so I couldn't really ask questions, so I don't know if this is a common thing to happen?

Re: Clomid

Hi Leanne,
Thanks for your message. I'm coming to the end of my 3rd Clomid cycle, Day 18. I have blood tests on Tuesday... The closer the day comes the more anxious I get. It's hard to be positive when all I've ever heard up to this point is bad news. Totally understand with the nurse ringing at work and not being able to ask many questions. I gather if you ovulate the hormone will be quite high (I think like 20), otherwise it is usually quite significantly low (I think like 2). I hope your 2nd cycle works for you, the meds aren't that much fun.

Re: Clomid

sad Sadly my 150mg round of Clomid was not successful. I found out last Tuesday that this was the case. My usual nurse is away so I had to talk to another nurse who didn't really know my story and where to go next. I already had an appt booked with the Women's Clinic in November but she has bumped this forward for me to October. I now have a month to relax and focus on myself and my partner before giving something new a go. The past week has been hard but have some really great support people around me. I hope others have more successful stories than me.

Re: Clomid

Sorry to hear that it didn't work out. I hope you make the most of your month off, we had some 'time off trying' a couple of months ago to 'avoid' me being 9 months pregnant at my wedding next year! It was actually really nice, not thinking about it all for a couple of months.
I'm back on clomid now, round 2, or maybe it's still round 1 as I think the first one might have been a tester as it was only 25mg. On 50mg now, second day of taking it and not sleeping at all. I wake up every 2 hours, boiling hot and soaked. Not fun at all.
Sounds stupid, but I never thought it would be so hard. I kind of thought I'd just take some pills and that would be it! I just hope I ovulate on this round, just to hear that I've got that far would be good at the moment!
I've never had a problem with needles...until now! I even feel funny about getting blood drawn now, and I'm dreading the thought of 'the next step'. I want to think positively that the clomid will work, but at the same time I want to be prepared for if it doesn't, because I was completely unprepared for the meds.... So I keep flipping from thinking I'm being over positive, to overly negative! Does your head in doesn't it?!

Re: Clomid

Hi Leanne and wgirl,

I hope you don't mind me joining in. I'm new to this forum and could relate to parts of both of your stories so far.

So here's a bit about my journey so far...
Was on the pill for 10 years. Stopped to try and 'clear out my body' before TTC. Got a withdrawal bleed then nothing for over 6 months. Went to Fertility Associates, was diagnosed with pcos. Was completely shocked and sad. Started clomiphene, had three cycles of clomiphene with no effect. My hormones never rose to the levels they were meant to therefore I never ovulated. I was a psycho cow while taking clomid too! Really moody and emotional. From what I've read, this is not at all uncommon.

I dont ovulate on my own and I need Provera to give me a period between each cycle. After finding out I was resistant to clomiphene, I started the FSH injections (called Puregon). FINALLY, after what felt like forever, I grew a follicle! I was so excited seeing it at the scan! I continued to have regular blood tests and scans, watched the little follicle grow, then when the time was right did the trigger shot and had lots of intercourse... No luck sad the two week wait was tourture just like everyone says. Big. Fat. Negative.

So I'm now doing a second cycle of Puregon injections. Honestly the needle is tiny and only stings for a second as it goes in. You could get your partner to do it if you are too squeamish. It's really easy to do. I kind of like doing it because I know I'm doing something to help my little follicles on their journey... Hopefully to create our family. We have chosen to do IUI this time too, which is where they wash the sperm, keep all the good ones and insert them straight into your uterus via your cervix. I'm not one to want to waste any more time mucking around. It's one year next month since we started trying.

That's me anyway. I really just want you ladies to know you aren't alone, you most likely aren't the first and won't be the last to try clomiphene and have it not be the quick fix you we're hoping for (I know I was certainly hoping for that!!). Thinking of you both and looking forward to hearing about your progress smiling

Hang in there, fertility is tough but we are here to support each other along the way xx

Re: Clomid

Thank you both for sharing your journeys so far! I was having a bad evening last night thinking about it and then I saw your messages and it is just so reassuring having other people in the same boat as me.

Bluey - Those sound like the injections that I may have to start doing as a next step. I think me and my partner both just thought that this was going be easy and we would be pregnant within a few months except now it has turned into 14 with still no positive outlook. The only reassuring thing in terms of the injections is that my partner has type 1 diabetes so has to do injections at least 4 times a day so he will be able to support me through it really well. I wasn't responding to the Provera either to start my period so had to take a contraceptive pill.

I think the hardest part about this whole situation is not telling anybody and then having to lie about things such as not drinking, becoming a bit of a hermit, and then acting happy and as though everything is great whereas I have never felt so mentally down in all my life. And then to make it harder my sister announced she was pregnant... on my birthday a couple of months ago, 2 days before I was due to have blood tests. I was shattered after that.

The clomid itself was horrible stuff. Same as you waking up in the middle of night in sweats completely drenched. Totally moody and snappy and down. Do the FSH injections have any side effects?

It's definitely tough at times but having a supportive partner is so fantastic!!

Good luck to both of you with everything!!! Look forward to hearing more from you about your progress!! Lots of great baby thoughts to you x

Hi there, I am about to start my first cycle of Clomid this month. Is anyone still using this thread? I am looking for ladies in the same boat, new users of Clomid, to share experiences with.
My history is 2 and a half years ttc, one miscarriage 2013 and a stillborn daughter 2014. x

Re: Clomid

Hi Nicola,

Not many of the threads seem very active on here unfortunately.
I haven't got much good feedback to give you on Clomid sorry, but everyone's different. Clomid didn't actually work for me - it didn't do anything to 'normalise' my ovulation.
Besides not working, it wasn't a pleasant experience for me; couldn't sleep, night sweats, hot flushes, really emotional etc.
I had a laparoscopy in November 2013 and they found and cut out endometrial lesions. I've read some things that say that Clomid doesn't always work if you've got Endometriosis (but also read contradicting info too!).
I found out I was pregnant at the beginning of the year, but at my 12 week scan they found some problems with the baby. More scans, tests etc showed more and more abnormalities and he wasn't going to survive the pregnancy (he had Trisomy 18). I had an induced labour at 4 months.
So sorry to hear about your still birth, it's just devastating. When did it happen?
x

We got our BFP on 1nd round of Clomid (50 mg). We also did progesterone pills (200 mg), which I am still taking. TTC for almost 2 years with Unexplained Infertility. Only came close once and resulted in chemical. Today we are 4 weeks 5 days pregnant. Congrats!

Re: Clomid

I'm really sorry to hear about the challenges you. It's completely understandable to feel stressed and impatient during this time, especially when it seems like everyone around you is experiencing success in their journeys.

Many people have gone through similar struggles and have found success eventually. It’s important to remember that everyone's journey is unique, and sometimes it takes time to find the right path. Connecting with support groups or online communities can help you find others who have faced similar challenges and have ultimately succeeded.

Your upcoming appointment at the Fertility Clinic is a crucial step, and hopefully, they can provide more insights and options for you. Remember to lean on each other during this time, and don’t hesitate to seek support from friends, family, or professionals if you need it. You’re not alone in this, and reaching out can make a big difference.
