Clomid and becoming insane!!

Hi all,

I have a three year old, before he was conceived I had been on the pill for years when I went off the pill I fell pregnant before getting a period naturally so was very lucky!!

After his birth and six months of breastfeeding I never had a period again and still haven't. I have tried provera that didn't work, my specialist then put me back on the pill for three months and that didn't work. Then I went on the pill for another month and during my sugar tablets (still without period) I started clomid 50g and took them from day 5-9 I didn't notice any specific side effects all was normal. At day 21 I had a blood test and the specialist confirmed that I had ovulated. From day 26-7 I started feeling tired and a bit emotional then from day 28 till now day 31 I am completely irrational, I am crying constantly uncontrollably, having anxiety attacks, not sleeping for longer than 3 hours a night, can't concentrate at work, I think the anxiety is making my chest sore and tight, I can't eat I try and make myself and I am not enjoying my food.

I am having today off work to try and relieve myself of some stress. I have spoken to my specialist who said it can't be the clomid cause it was taken to long ago. He has ordered blood tests which he will look at next week. Someone at work suggested PMS? I am unsure I have never had any of these tags before I don't normally get emotional or anything during my cycle before having baby....

We brought a lifestyle property 9 months ago which at the time I loved and wanted to stay in forever and now I am thinking we paid too much for it and we can't sell it but these worries are stupid... We we're never even thinking of selling it... I then think we wanted to fill it with children and I probably can't and I think that's stresses me out more.

The worst thing is I know I am being unreasonable and I can't make it stop...

Anyone had the same thing happen or have any advice?? Anything?? I think I am losing it....

By the way I was completely normal before!!!!

Thanks

Hi Tashareed,
Sounds like you were going through hell in April...have things improved at all? I'm wondering if the combined effects of being on the pill and taking Clomid exaggerated normal PMS symptoms, I know that's what happened to me when I took the pill many years ago-I felt like I turned into a teenage boy overnight, full of rage and angst and impulsivity...it definitely felt like I was going insane. I've just started Clomid (on 5th day of the pill now) and thankfully, it hasn't had much effect on my hormones or sanity as I thought it would...but maybe I have that to look forward to later on! I'd like to know how you're going and if the anxiety and mood swings passed after your period. Thanks smiling

Clomid seems to be culprit here. It raises oestrogen to 10 times the normal level to induce ovulation which justifies its role in causing mood swings, depression, irritability and hostility. Few people have also reported early pregnancy symptoms with clomid. Hope you are feeling better by now.
