Hi all,

My partner and I have been trying to conceive naturally for 6 years!!!!! We have had every test under the sun and there is no explanation. I was lined up to start IVF 2 years ago but sadly my partners mother passed unexpectedly so we took a year for him to work through this. Unfortunately this has meant that I am now going through my first IVF cycle and 40 (and a half) and we will only get this one go funded. I'm on day 12 of my injections and due to start the Puregon injection end of the week. I'm scare and excited. We are very hopeful but obviously trying to stay realistic also. It's hard when everyone around us is popping them out left and right, happy for them but it does hurt each time we get some more good news from others. I can't imagine not having a family and I'm scared as to what will happen if this fails. sad I'd love to hear from someone going through a similar circumstance please.

Hello Miss Nimbus I just signed up to this forum (which is why the slow response) , after going through four rounds of IVF and finally crossing bridges to get pregnant that I never even imagined at the beginning of our journey. Was your IVF cycle successful? Or are you working through options for next steps?

Hello Miss Nimbus,
You will get different (and even disheartening) statistical data if you look for IVF success rate after 40. However, there is every reason to continue attempts to improve outcomes in this age group as treatment success has continued to expand in all age groups. Just give your best, go with a clinic that has experience of handling this kind of cases. Wish you a good luck and sending you positive vibes herewith.

Hi. Im new to the forum. After ttc since April, being 41 and being told my eggs are low in supply and being of poor quality we are deciding to go with an egg donor. This has been an emotional rollercoaster ride for us. We are so ready to have another baby and I myself even though we have a couple of months to go before actually looking for someone or finding out how, am excited and same as you scared if it fails. I dont think theres money for a 2nd time but Im trying to be very hopeful.

Goodluck to you and all the best

I am so with you, Angelic. I strongly believe on giving myself every possible chance and have no regret if it fails. I am sure you have supporting team of doctor who are treating you best. My eggs are also been of poor quality and have been advised by doctors CoQ10 and DHEA to improve the same. Though I have brought the supplements, I am yet to start it, honestly little hesitant and doubtful about the results. I am planning to start it from tomorrow, would love to hear feedback on this.
Miss Nimbus : I hope this attempt works for you. As Liam said, success rate is increasing, so you have all hopes with you. Baby dust to all.

Re: IVF at 40

Hello Miss Nimbus, If you’re hoping to conceive after the age of 40, all is not lost. While it is generally more challenging to become pregnant later in life, it is possible to carry a baby to term. In the end, proactive efforts that you take can ease the way to conception and benefit the health of your unborn child as well. I would like to share these tips to get success in this stage.
1. Take a fertility supplement.
2. Get your hormone levels tested.
3. Start as soon as possible - If you’ve waited until 40 has passed, you need to take aggressive action to conceive. Healthy eggs that will actually implant diminish as time passes. Age isn’t your friend when it comes to conception and nothing good will come out of waiting longer.
4. Watch your weight.
5. Don’t use drugs and limit the use of alcohol.
6. Eat a healthy diet - Your body is your temple. Use fuel that will benefit your entire reproductive system.
7. Remain hydrated - Keep the water flowing to ensure that all systems are on go.
8. Stay active- Keep your body strong in anticipation of a healthy pregnancy.

I was a first time IVF Mum at 42. We had not real diagnosis needing donor eggs but in the end went overseas for donor eggs from the Czech republic. A much higher chance of success due to the age of the donors. Keep your spirits up it can happen.

I think it’s great that you're seeking support retro bowl from others in similar circumstances. Being able to share experiences can really help in feeling understood.
