Hi Everyone,
Im a new to this site and was wondering if there was anyone going through the same thing as me and my partner as wanting to hear any success stories, comments and feedback.
My partner and I have been together for 9 years and trying for a baby for nearly 2 years. I am 28yo was diagnosed with PCOS about 8 months and we found out that my partner has a pretty low sperm count and a high mortility rate. We have been told that the best way forward for us is IVF.
I needed to loose 9kgs to get in the publically funded IV waitng list..which I hav now done and we are on, wohoo! It is only the begining of our journey but wud appreciate any advice or wud love to hear from anyone who has similar issues as myself and my partner combined.
Thanks

Re: IVF, PCOS & Male Fertility Issues
Hi Bexs,
well done losing 9kg! I have PCOS also but my BMI is 25 so its not really a weight-related thing. Have your cycles improved since losing weight? I'm 25, have always had PCOS. I have a 4 year old to a previous relationship. I got pregnant straight after coming off the pill. They say PCOSers have better fertility immediatley after stopping pill because the ovary has had the hormones down-regulated...including testosterone...so there is a better hormone environment for a short time until the PCOS gets going again. I was really lucky to have had her. After pregnancy, I stopped ovulating altogether (no periods) and my symptoms got worse. It is very depressing dealing with the symptoms that come with PCOS. No wonder there is a definite link to depression for PCOS sufferers.
Anyway, we have been trying for 8 months... ovulated once with clomid in that time and not pregnant. The other 4 times with clomid, i didnt ovulate. Time to move on. I was ready to start injectables with IUI but the Dr said that I could easily overstimulate with the PCOS and if I got more than 2 follicles they would need to cancel the cycle. And as we live 3 hours away from the clinic, it can be a very exhausting process with not a very high success rate. So IVF our best option. Fortunately we dont have any sperm issues. We are starting the IVF process this week. Excited and nervous. We are paying for this cycle because we aren't eligible for funding for 2 years. Have been given a 50% chance of success with this cycle. When do you start IVF? What clinic are you attending? How you feeling about it all?

Re: IVF, PCOS & Male Fertility Issues
Hi Ladies,
Thanks for you replies
Lilly - I have heard that sometimes going back on the pill, then coming off again can help, my friend did that and it worked who has PCOS, but due to my parnters fertility issues I dont think that will work for us. You are lucky to have had your little girl. I didnt know that there was a link with PCOS and depression, but I cant def see why and I do get it from time to time. Our friends were on clomid and there last time on it, they concieved twins! I hope you first round of IVF went well for you. How did you find it??
LornaMJ - no worries at all, the more the merrier. What do you mean by "protocol?" sorry, this is all very new to me. How is your IVF treatment going?
I am with Fertility Plus in Auckland and we have been given an approximate wait of 7 months, but the co-ordinator is sooo lovely and told me to ring up every now and again to see if this has changed. I think about 6 weeks before treatment we go in for an orientation.
I am feeling quite positive, but i don't want to get my hopes up too much... probably the same as you ladies. I also feel like I don't want to obsess over it and read into it too much before the time comes as there is no use over analysing and stressing about what is going to happen - just to take it as it comes. I am a little scared of the injections to be honest... but I know it will all be worth it in the long run.

Just wondering about the result of your IVF. Yes, repeated blood works, injections, doctor appointment may make you feel sicker but at the end it would be all worth.
