Low AMH

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum. My husband and I have been going through IVF since September last year. We went in to this due to my husband having testicular cancer at 26yrs of age. Natural conception is not possible for us. Earlier this year we learned I have a very low AMH, Im only 31. This came as a huge shock to me especially after learning what that means in terms of egg quality. Since then we have had 1 failed fresh transfer and 2 failed FET. One was done on a manufactured cycle and the last one on a natural cycle. We have one more embryo left in this first IVF cycle before its back to square one all over again. Sadly Im not feeling too hopeful as I am certain there is something wrong with the embryos despite them making it to blastocyst stage. Feeling much more anxious than I have ever been in my life I wondered how many other women are in the same situation as me. Is anyone else dealing with low AMH? If so, how do you cope?. Sometimes I feel so alone dealing with this...

Re: Low AMH

Hi Helen,
You're not alone. We have been trying for 2.5yrs and I have also recently been told I have very low AMH, I'm only 33 and my AMH is 1.1. About to have orientation for IVF, I am nervous about how I am going to respond. Haven't even thought how I might deal with things if I manage to get to embryo transfer stage, for it then to fail. I really feel for you. I find exercise and yoga keep me in a more positive state, don't know if that helps you?

Re: Low AMH

Hi Hopeful32,

Thank you for your add to the feed. It is comforting to know that I am not alone with this. When you look up low AMH online you only ever seem to come across oversee's blogs so I really wanted to know if any other kiwi's were in the same boat. It was quite a blow to find this info out because my late mother had had 4 kids with no problems but I guess she had done this all before she was 30 where her chances we greater.
As luck for us would have it we have finally had success and I am 13 weeks pregnant now but after 3 failed embryo's I was not about to push on with the last one without seeking further advice first. I was convinced there was something genetically wrong with our embryos because of my low AMH. My doctor made the suggestion of trying a Uterine Scratch as sometimes patients have repeat implantation failure and this procedure can help the embryo attach. I gave it a go and low and behold our last one stuck.
I am still very very aware of my low AMH but I guess my message to you is to remain hopeful and exhaust all options for you never know which one you try might just be the one that helps that little embryo to make it through the gauntlet that IVF can be.
If you ever would like to meet for a coffee to chat about IVF and what is involved feel free to let me know. I am only to happy to answer any questions you have as I know how nervous it is going in to it. I wish you and your partner all the very best with your IVF journey.

Re: Low AMH

Hello Helen, congratulations for your pregnancy. My sister was the case of low AMH (her level was 6); she went thought the treatment but didn’t respond as the doctors had hoped. Now she has crossed 40, and has very low chances of successful conception, so they are anyway thinking of adoption.
Hopeful32, I would suggest you to check things out for yourself. Start reading up on low ovarian reserve and you may discover that there were women out there who have become pregnant via IVF. It would be struggle in initial days, but a combination of IVF, doctor with YEARS experience, state of the art equipment, acupuncture and Pre-Natals should fetch a desire result. Sending you all baby dust.

Re: Low AMH

Hopefully starting this thread up again. I've found it hard dealing with my low AMH result. The fertility doctor went on and on about it and showed us all these scary graphs about just how BAD my result was. It did not help at all and made me feel more than ever that us not being about to conceive it all on me. The results have helped plan our IVF treatment but I've never felt so down in all my life. Anyone else out there in the same boat? We decided to try IVF and it's not going great (first cycle cancelled due to poor response to the stimulation injection).

I'm predicting it will be cancelled again, at which point we'll give up (the medication alone for a cancelled cycle costs thousands). We'll be OK, I guess, and will have to move on, but the added worry over the possibility I'm approaching menopause in my 30s is pretty devastating (if that's what it means? I'm too afraid to google it).

Thanks for listening.

A request though to not share/compare results as I don't think that's helpful.

Re: Low AMH

Hi Elsha,

Have you tried an alternative fertility clinic? Do you think it may help?

Regards,

Re: Low AMH

There is only one clinic in our area (not wanting to travel to Auckland, where I think there may be other options).
