Trying for 2 years

Hi there

My husband and I have been trying for a baby for two years now with no success. Have had all the tests under the sun, and apparently we are both fit and healthy with no obvious fertility problems! All the more frustrating that it's not happening!!
We are booked in for our first IVF cycle in December 2012. I would appreciate any advice/experience others have had re egg collection, what the actual process is etc. We haven't had our meeting in Wellington yet so don't know what to expect. Thanks for your help. Thanks Nicki

Re: Trying for 2 years

Hi there, we have also been trying for 3 years, with no apparant reason for failure to have a (second) baby. We are blessed to have a healthy daughter but dont seem to be able to provide a sibling. All my coffee group have long since had more children, and even two ladies I was in a support email group with now have a baby/are pregnant. Feeling very lonely and wondering why everyone else is succeeding. I think there must be more out there who feel the same but its a silent curse that no one talks about, infertility/2ndary infertility. In my case im sure people just think Im a 'career' woman' and dont want more children, which couldnt be more wrong, or should be happy to have one already, which is hard to explain if you know your family isnt complete. Anyway enough ranting, you're not alone out there anyway, send me a line if you want support. Best of luck

Re: Trying for 2 years

Hi,
I have just been through my 1st cycle of IVF & although it failed, I found it ok. When I initially started taying "the pill" again I did feel nauseous but this used to happen years ago which is why I stopped using it as contraception. The injections of Buserelin was fine & I did then each night at 7pm as it fitted in with our lifestyle and was a time when my partner was also at home & could do them for me if he wanted. He was really good at it & I never bruised when he did them. MI had to monitor my blood pressure as it seemed to rise but this came down once I was on the reduced dose of Buserelin and when I started Gonal-F injections.

I found that I was most anxious 2 days before the egg collection as I did not know what to expect. I had been told the sedation would make me sleepy but the morning of the procedure, the anesthetist likend it more to a GA. I was acutally relieved to hear this. My procedure took about 40 minutes and my partner was there all the time, holding my hand, apparently & he followed me through to recovery. Following the procedure, I had abdominal cramps (I believe like period pains but as I never get them I can only assume)but I was given pain relief which kicked in.

I have to say that all in all I felt ok. Unfortunately this cycle was not successful for us but we will try again.

This was my experience and naturally it will be different for everyone. I do however wish you well & as someone said to me,may I wish you lots of morning sickness.

Hi, I can strongly recommend REST REST REST when you are having treatment leading up to the egg collection. Something I didn't do and regret. Cheers

Hi Liz

If you add me as a friend on facebook I can invite you to the group. It is secret and private so no one can see who is a member unless they have been invited to join it

I contacted the person that runs the Tauranga IVF support group about 4 weeks ago and have never had a reply from them. A bit disappointing I have to say!

Re: Trying for 2 years

Hi ladies

I am currently undergoing my first iui and are booked in for ivf in November this year. I am in Tauranga. Any chance of me joining your support group too? This is quite an isolating experience at times, even though I have lots of support in my life.

Re: Trying for 2 years

Hi Angelbaby

Please add me as a friend on facebook (details above) and then private message me saying that you would like to join the group.

I get random people asking me to be friends so if you want to join the IVF group then please message me so that I know to accept your friend request and invite you to the group.

I am also in Tauranga and there are a few of us from this area in our group smiling

Hi Nirala
Yes - there is a small group that meets periodically at McCafe. Jacinta runs the group and you can email her on secondarysupport@fertilitynz.org.nz regarding the next date. You will be more than welcome to join them.
