I went on line to try and find views/support info for couples who have issues with their fertility and decided not to try IVF or adoption (I don't see adoption as an option for us). When you search under infertility all I seemed to find was advice on IVF treatment or those that tried IVF and then gave up. I am interested if there is anyone out there who decided not to do IVF and what your reasons were.

Re: Why you would decide not to do IVF
I don't know anyone who decided not to have ivf if it was available to them but I did do a research project for my degree about 14 years ago on the effects of reproductive technologies on society and I thought then that I'd never go through ivf after talking to couples that had gone through it. The chances of it working when I did my research was 15% so I thought then that it as quite a risk to take for something so emotionally draining. But I have changed my mind over the years as work around ivf has improved. It's a hard decision to make to go through with ivf but when the options are limited, it's not a bad one.

Re: Why you would decide not to do IVF
I am also looking at going through ivf what i find daunting is of course the age factor. Sorry this is my last option as for 5 years i have been trying and have been to a fertility clinic but found them confusing and also time consuming i should have carried on with it as now i want this so badly.

Re: why would you decide not to do IVF
My sister-and-brother-in-law chose not to do IVF (which in their case would have also needed to involve donor eggs). In their case it was for religeous reasons; they felt that if they were meant to have children, they would have them without that level of intervention.
I don't share their views (despite sharing their religion), but respect their choice.

Re: Why you would decide not to do IVF
We have been ttc for 2 years. We are very lucky that we have a 3 and a half year old girl who we conceived naturally. I have conceived twice since but have had two missed miscarriages at 6 and 10 weeks.
I am almost 40 and have a low amh of 1.3. Everything else seems normal with both of us. I am currently on clomiphene but no success so far despite very high day 21 progesterone levels - 168!
We will not qualify for any funding for IVF. We have decided not to pursue IVF as an option despite the fact that we would love to give our daughter a sibling. The reasons are that we don't have enough savings and would need to borrow to do IVF and the chances of success for us are very slim. I work part time and am worried that I will spend so much time focusing on what I would like instead of appreciating what I have and may end up missing out on both. It is a hard decision but if we have no success after 2 more clomiphene cycles we will just leave it to nature for the next year and then probably stop trying.
It is breaking my heart but I think it is the right decision for us. Hope this helps.
