We are a young 24 married couple hopefully trying ivf soon been together for 7years
My husband was diagnosed with cancer sep in 2010 , he has been battling non-stop 24/7 we were told in jan there was nothing more they could do for him but try keep him alive as long as he can fight for , so the first thing he sed was lets get married and we did 2weeks later on valentines day , everything was going good den we talked about having a baby what were our options etc. so we were told ivf is the only way in our circumstances and we can't afford private treatment I haven't worked since he was diagnosed I am his full time carer . Anyway the last 3 yrs I had put on heaps of weight and my BMi was way to high for publicly funded ivf so I had to loose 20kgs i was doing really gud loosing weight slowly nd keepn it off until we git told he won't make it past oct so down went my diet nd up went my weight again , I have jus found strength again to get back on track the last 3weeks because my husband has now out lived the docs time by nearly 2months and still walkn around (he is my superman) so looking at goal by feb 2014
, but I was wondering if anyone has been through what we are going through ????
Would really like to chat to someone and get some advice weightloss , ivf , cancer couple

Oh man - I TOTALLY understand what the weight loss thing is like. I can also relate to going through the cancer situation - I lost my brother 10 years ago to a brain tumor.
We have just finished our first funded cycle and found out on Christmas Eve that it was unsucessful. It was our 3rd cycle - we funded the first ourselves and then did a frozen cycle.
Going through IVF is stressful enough without having the added stress of having to be at a certain BMI to get the funding. I managed to loose about 8kg to get to the right BMI but it was bl**dy hard going! And it was going right up until egg collection day when they do the weigh in.
I introduced a lot more exercise into my life - walking anywhere from 45-75 minutes a day and I also cut out carbohydrate after lunchtime. So, for dinner, if I was doing meatballs for example, I would do spagetti for my husband but I would just have the meatballs and sauce. I actually found that I felt better not eating the carbs and it's actually easier than you might think.
I've stacked about 5kg back on though - comfort eating over Christmas to help deal with the pain of yet another unsucessful attempt.
More than happy to give you some ideas on the types of things I eat for b'fast, lunch and dinner.
You're by no means alone!

Hi Natty,
I just reading your post, I know its been a while, my heart goes out to you, I cant imagine what youve been through.
we each have journeys, & I understand about the weight, we have been trying to conceive for 17 years - now in our mid 30s, and the last 5 pursuing for IVF, but I sadly lost my dad to cancer, and both my grandparents all within a year and then a business in the CHC earthquakes, the hospital also lost all our tests in that time, my weight then went from 57kgs to 75, & then we moved...all very stressful, our chance of natural conception is less than 1% so IVF is our only choice...lucky I believe in miracles tho....as lost all hope of funding...sometimes situations can seem hopeless, it can seem unfair to go be denied parenthood due to weight when most of NZ is overweight...but need some kind of hope to cling onto so I try still....I am wondering how things are for you now though? you said you would try IVF April?

Re: Having trouble loosing weight for ivf
Losing excess weight before undergoing the infertility treatment like IVF can improve pregnancy and birth outcome. Obese women are at high risk of pregnancy complications. To lose weight adopt the healthy and active lifestyle. A balanced diet and regular exercise play important role.
