Hi i was wondering if anyone had any advice. I have PCOS and have always struggled with my weight, I have tried many different diets and i try to exercise daily by walking the dogs. I get mixed reviews on the internet about the foods i should be eating. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Hailes

Thanks for your post. I suggest that you watch our information video on PCOShttp://www.fertilitynz.org.nz/information/information-videos/polycy... I've also attached our information leaflet, which includes some self-care tips.

In Fertility Week next year (11-17 May), PCOS will be a key feature, and we will hold a webinar specifically on PCOS and fertility, as well as Roadshow events around the country, and there will be information on the Fertility Week site. Look out for that.

Let us know if you have any other questions in the meantime.

Re: Having trouble losing weight with PCOS

Hello,

I also suffer from PCOS and have been struggling with my weightloss.

I have to lose 33kg to qualify for IVF. However, ive lost 16kg of that on weight watchers in 20weeks. For me that is amazing.

Inside that i have eliminated added sugers (including packet sauces for meals), white bread (i use molenberg balance) and i limit myself to two pieces of fruit a day - which weight watchers also endorses. (also no alcohol)

Anyway, i thought i would share that with you, i hope you find your weightloss success whatever that is.

Re: Having trouble losing weight with PCOS

You’re not alone!!! Approximately 50 – 60% of women with PCOS are obese. It has been shown that losing even 5% of body weight can lead to an improvement in skin, regularity of menstrual cycles and decreased insulin levels. It’s likely your doctor/dietitian has advised you to take more notice of the carbs in your diet in an effort to combat the effects of insulin resistance. Recent advances have shown that a balanced, low GI (Glycaemic Index) diet may have a very significant, beneficial effect on many of the symptoms. Hope you achieve your target weight loss very soon.

Re: Having trouble losing weight with PCOS

Hi. I dont suffer from PCOS but I am currently on a well balanced low GI diet in hoping it will with my low quality eggs. We are still ttc naturally but have our eyes on egg donors. Ive been on it since beginning August and have lost 10kgs, its just lately Ive been slacking a bit or I wouldve been lower. With Christmas coming up Im worried Ill over eat and pick up again. My goal is to lose another 10kgs by end of January.

Re: Having trouble losing weight with PCOS

I have PCOS and im Type 2 diabetic and i take insulin twice a day.
I take 70 units of insulin before breakfast....70 units before my evening meal.
I also take a 500mg Metformin, slow release as i can not tolerate tablets as they cause bad stomach upsets.

I have been on a healthy living plan (nice way of saying diet lol) for a while and this week i have been on a no carb, wheat, gluten, sugar, fat, processed foods etc detox....exercising every day. (The Body Rescue Plan)
They advise to weigh after 4 weeks but i couldnt resist the temptation of seeing if i had lost any weight in this first week for a little encouragement, only to find i have not lost a single pound.
My partner is also on the same detox and he has lost about 10 pounds.

I know my pcos plays havoc with my hormones and effects my insulin levels and i am going to see my doctor and diabetic nurse on Monday to discuss coming off insulin or at least lowering it or trying new meds but i was wondering if anyone has any advice they can offer me regarding losing weight or trying a new medication as right now i feel very despondent.

I will persevere with this detox as the no carbs have bought my sugar levels right down and i do feel better in myself but its just so discouraging not to lose any weight at all. sad

Hi,
You stated that you have tried numerous diet plans with no success.
I believe you should experiment with different yoga asanas.
