ACART Consultation: posthumous reproduction

July 16, 2020

The Advisory Committee on Assisted Reproductive Technology (ACART) advises the Minister of Health on matters concerning assisted reproduction.  They have been working on guidelines which could allow people to use the gametes, stored embryos or reproductive tissue of a deceased person in fertility treatment in the event that the deceased person had consented to this proceeding.

The proposed guidelines are available here: https://consult.health.govt.nz/acart/proposed-guidelines-for-posthumous-use/

ACART is seeking feedback on the proposed guidelines on or before Wednesday 9th September 2020.

To give feedback directly to ACART, as an individual, your options are:

1. completing the Citizen Space link through ACART's web page, https://acart.health.govt.nz/consultations
2. emailing a completed feedback form (available on the web page) or your comments to acart@health.govt.nz
3. posting a completed feedback form or your comments to: ACART Secretariat, PO Box 5013, Wellington.
If you have any queries or would like to submit in person/via zoom, please contact the ACART Secretariat at: acart@health.govt.nz

Alternatively, you can send your feedback to Fertility NZ to be submitted on your behalf (in this case, your identifying details will not be included).  If you wish to do so, please email your thoughts to Nicola Bitossi, CEO, Fertility NZ nicola@fertilitynz.org.nz
