A Survey of Attitudes Towards Participating in a Randomised Controlled Trial

Professor Cindy Farquhar is Clinical Director of Gynaecology at Auckland Hospital and a Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Auckland Medical School. 

In the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Auckland, we are always looking for opportunities to improve women’s reproductive health by improving the quality of medicines and procedures offered by health services. We have noticed that a combination of medicines, referred to as the “Colorado Protocol” is being offered in some New Zealand fertility clinics. Professor Cindy Farquhar is planning a clinical research trial to compare these medications with a placebo (identically appearing medication without any of the active ingredients) to see if they really do increase the chances of having a baby from IVF. To do this, we need the help of Fertility Service consumers like you to tell us if taking extra medicines and/or placebos (dummy pills) is acceptable. Your responses to the survey questions will help us shape our research plans. 

Our purpose is to create knowledge to help all fertility patients in this country to get the best and most effective fertility treatments available.
